Happy Procurement Month

Published on 3/3/2025

It's March and it's also Happy Procurement Month where we are celebrating the Power of You!

It's the perfect time to shine a spotlight on the vital role that public procurement professionals play in your organization's success. Procurement Month is an opportunity for us to acknowledge the hard work, dedication, and expertise of your procurement team members who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the smooth operation of your entity's facilities, operations and maintenance departments, the acquisition of goods and services including information technology running smoothly along with the design and construction of your capital projects.

So, what exactly is Procurement Month? It's a time to celebrate and recognize the importance of public procurement in achieving your organization's goals. Procurement professionals are part of the backbone of Washington State, city, county, transit, ports, higher education and other quasi-public agency responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing relationships with suppliers to obtain the best value, while maintaining highest ethical and compliance standards and fiduciary responsible for the taxpayers' dollars.

Here are some ways YOU can celebrate Procurement Month and show appreciation for your procurement team:

1. Recognize Outstanding Achievements

Take the time to acknowledge the hard work and accomplishments of your procurement team members. Whether it's meeting procurement schedule, successfully awarding contracts, cost-savings, streamlining processes, or implementing innovative solutions, celebrate their contributions to your agency's success. Big or small celebrate them all.

2. Participate in Professional Development

Investing in the skills and knowledge of your procurement professionals is crucial for their growth and your agency's success. Consider attending WANIGP educational offerings, attending our monthly Lunch N Learn and Emerging Professionals round table sessions, NIGP course and webinars, learning labs, on-demand trainings that can help your procurement team stay informed about the latest industry trends, best practices, and technologies along with networking with other colleagues who are going through the same scenarios. Sign up for the Pathways concierge program and so much more.

3. Share Success Stories

Use this month as an opportunity to share success stories and best practices from your procurement team. Whether it's through internal communications, social media, or team meetings, it's a great time to highlight the achievements and innovations of your procurement professionals to inspire others and foster a culture of excellence in your own agency.

4. Engage in Continuous Improvement

Procurement Month is an excellent time to reflect on procurement processes and identify opportunities for improvement. Encourage feedback from team members and stakeholders, and prioritize initiatives that enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and drive sustainable practices.

Let's come together as an association to celebrate Procurement Month and recognize the invaluable contributions of public procurement professionals. Thank you to all of our procurement members for all that you do! Don't forget to register today for March Procurement Summit. It's only 3 days away.2025 March Procurement Summit - Events - Washington State Chapter of NIGP
