Announcing our New Legislative Liaison for WANIGP

Learn a little more about our New Legislative Liaison ...

"I began my career in public service in 2002 with the City of Anacortes as the administrative assistant at our drinking water treatment plant, under the umbrella of our Public Works Department. In 2017 the city centralized procurement and contracting and created a new position in our Legal Department. I was fortunate enough to be selected to transition to that role and dive into the world of public procurement and contracting and my current title is Contracts and Grants Manager. It’s been the perfect fit for me, and I love every aspect of the work. I’m very excited to jump into the role as chair of the Legislative Liaison Committee and can’t wait to meet more of our amazing membership and help our community where I can. I’d love your help with this committee so please reach out if you are interested in learning more about volunteering, or to provide any ideas you have! Email me at legislative@wanigp.org."

Short-term goals for the committee:

  • send out recruitment emails or forum posts
  • since the legislature is currently in session, create an email or forum post schedule to provide regular updates of bills with potential impacts on public procurement and contracting

Long-term goals:

  • gather feedback from membership on what portions of the current laws they would like to see changed, what impacts them the most
  • connect with other groups, such as APWA-WA, AWC, WPUDA, etc. who already track legislation and see if we can collaborate on future changes
  • work with the Board to issue recommendations to legislators (possibly similar to, but a simpler version of, AWC’s Legislative Priorities document)
